“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God...”
St. John the Theologian, First Epistle 4:1
For all of human history, there have been tales and stories about evil spirits tormenting the world. You find this in every culture throughout history but it seems that in the past few hundred years, man has tried, in an almost exhaustive effort, to become more rational and find a logical explanation for events that take place. Even within Western Christianity, the idea of the demonic has almost become somewhat of just an empty symbol and doesn't really seem to be taken all that seriously anymore. It gets especially dangerous when you look into the charismatic movement and people talking about the spirit entering them and they don’t seem to have the discernment to know if this spirit is actually of God. Then you have all of these occurrences of UFO sightings that have popping up and people are speculating on these little green men that are from the far end of another galaxy and some people are getting pretty obsessed with the idea. This is going to be my attempt to explain why it is more likely to believe that aliens are in fact demonic beings and not visitors from far away galaxies. Don’t get me wrong, I do believe that there are people who are seeing these UFOs and these beings, but it is not what they think it is, they are being deceived. This article will take a look into some of the US government investigations into the UFOs, some misconceived notions that people thousands of years ago made contact, and the truth about demonic entities that are the likely culprits of this phenomena. A really good book that I could suggest to you to read more into this would be Orthodoxy and the Religion of the Future by Fr Seraphim Rose. In this book, Fr. Seraphim covers the rise in Eastern mysticism in the US, the UFO phenomena and the charismatic movement. Can’t recommend this book enough, he has incredible detail and sources of information in this book. Another good book, that I have yet to read but have heard really good things about it is The UFO Deception by Fr. Spyridon Bailey.

PROJECT BLUE BOOK

Depending on where you get your information, UFO sightings skyrocketed right after WW2 which lead to the US Government leading an investigation within the Air Force that was called Project Blue Book, formally called Project Sign and Project Grudge which was heavily criticized as being a debunking project. Between the years of 1947 and 1969, a total of 12,618 sightings were reported and only 701 are still “unidentified”. Throughout the entire course of this operation, there were several different people put in charge of Project Blue Book starting with Captain Edward J. Ruppelt who is also credited as the man who coined the term “unidentified flying object”. It is also reported that he took the job very seriously and expected his team to do the same, firing 3 members for being either too “pro” or too “con” on the UFO situation. He suspected that the UFO reports were real craft and more than likely extraterrestrial in nature but lacked the evidence to prove this. Through the beginning of Blue Book, the group had a lot of official support but that started to fade by the mid-50s with lack of any actual evidence being gathered. In 1960 a civilian UFO research group, NICAP, was criticizing the Project as not actually collecting real research and trying to do cover-ups so they got Congress to investigate the Project and even got a few of their people into the Operation.
"A few good sightings a year, over the world, would bolster the extraterrestrial hypothesis—but many thousands every year? From remote regions of space? And to what purpose? To scare us by stopping cars, and disturbing animals, and puzzling us with their seemingly pointless antics?"
Dr. Josef Allen Hynek
During the course of Project Blue Book, an astronomer Josef Allen Hynek was signed on as a consultant. At the beginning, he was skeptical of the UFO phenomena but towards the end, seemed to have a change of heart (some other ufologist claim it was disingenuous). In 1977, he wrote a book called The UFO Experience: A Scientific Inquiry where he writes about the details of the investigation. In his book, he details the different types of “encounters” that were reported which have come to be known as the Hynek Scale.
Nocturnal Lights - Lights in the night sky.
Daylight Disks - UFOs seen in the daytime, generally having discoidal or oval shapes.
Radar-Visual - UFO reports that have radar confirmation — these supposedly try to offer harder evidence that the objects are real, although radar propagation can be occasionally discredited due to atmospheric propagation anomalies.
Close Encounters of the First Kind (CE1) - Visual sightings of an unidentified flying object, seemingly less than 500 feet (150 m) away, that show an appreciable angular extension and considerable detail.
Close Encounters of the Second Kind (CE2) - A UFO event in which a physical effect is alleged; this can be interference in the functioning of a vehicle or electronic device, animals reacting, a physiological effect such as paralysis or heat and discomfort in the witness, or some physical trace like impressions in the ground, scorched or otherwise affected vegetation, or a chemical trace.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (CE3) - A UFO event in which a physical effect is alleged; this can be interference in the functioning of a vehicle or electronic device, animals reacting, a physiological effect such as paralysis or heat and discomfort in the witness, or some physical trace like impressions in the ground, scorched or otherwise affected vegetation, or a chemical trace.
I’m also going to give you guys a story that he wrote about in his book Edge of Reality: A Progress Report of Unidentified Flying Objects from the reports that they investigated to get a good understanding of what they were investigating:
“In one “humanoid” case, which occurred in November, 1961, in one of the northern plains states in the US, four men were returning from a hunting trip late at night, when one of the men noticed a flaming object coming down, as if it were an airplane crashing about a half mile up the road from them. When they reached the site of the “crash”, all four men saw a silo-shaped craft in the field, sticking in the ground at an angle, with four seemingly human figures standing around it (this was at a distance of about 150 yards). They flashed a light on one of the figures, who was about 4 1/2 feet high and wearing what looked like white coveralls; he made a gesture to the men to stay back. After some hesitation (still thinking it was a plane crash), they went to a nearby town for a police officer, and when they returned they saw only some small red lights, something like automobile lights. They drove into the field with the officer and followed the lights, only to discover that they suddenly disappeared, leaving no tracks whatsoever, despite the muddiness of the field. After the puzzled police officer left, the men again saw the “silo” coming down out of the sky with the reddish glow. Instantly after the object “landed”, two figures were visible next to it; a shot was fired (although none of the men admitted to firing it) and one of the figures was “hit” in the shoulder with the thud, and spun around and down to his knees; in panic the men ran to their car and raced off, agreeing among themselves not to mention the incident to anyone. They returned home with a strange feeling that there was some period of time “lost” during the night. The next day one of the men was visited at his work by several well-groomed “official-looking” men, who asked him questions about the incident (but without mentioning the shooting) and then took him in their car to his home, where they questioned him about his clothes and boots and then left, telling him not to say anything about the incident to anyone. The hunter assumed these men were US Air Force investigators trying to conceal some new “secret device”, but the men never identified themselves and never contacted him again. All four men were extremely shaken up by the incident and after six years one of them felt compelled to tell the whole story.
It is definitely a wild story and to me, I don’t even doubt that they experienced all of this. (I will elaborate on this later so keep reading)
In 1969, the University of Colorado UFO Project, or informally known as Condon Committee examined hundreds of UFO files from Project Blue Book and came to the conclusion that “Our general conclusion is that nothing has come from the study of UFOs in the past 21 years that has added to science knowledge,” meaning the researchers involved in the project did not find conclusive evidence there have been sightings of UFOs that were crafted by remote galactic or intergalactic civilizations. After this report was released, the government shut down Project Blue Book. People can take this for what they want, either the report was meant to cover-up what they really found, as some do believe, and the government was just releasing the “small cases” to keep the people in the dark and Area-51 really has aliens locked up in their basement. Or, this could be evidence that our government spent 21 years and tons of money trying to figure these reports out since, if the reports were true, it could pose a threat to our nation’s security. Another topic that comes up with this is a “Top-Secret” report called Majestic-12 which is considered the “real” reports of Project Blue Book but nothing that I can find shows any validity to this so, personally, I believe this to be an ACTUAL conspiracy theory (as much as I hate that term). Sorry guys.
*Another set of released documents that I looked into, years ago, when I was more acceptable to the whole “alien” thing was the UFO Black Vault. This is something you can look into for more government documents on this but I think it is either documents from Project Blue Book or something similar as it was just reports on civilian sightings and one of the first indicators to me that there wasn’t much to this UFO thing. I can’t remember where I downloaded it before but I will put it in the Telegram if anyone wants to check it out.*

ANCIENT ALIENS
“Not until we have taken a look into the future shall we be strong and bold enough to investigate our past honestly and impartially.”
Erich Von Daniken
*What a silly thing to say*
Ancient Aliens is a television show on the History Channel that is based off of the Ancient Astronaut Theory, which Erich Von Daniken is one of the well-known proponents of this theory and has written several books on the subject. The Ancient Astronaut Theory, or Paleo-Contact, suggest that aliens have visited Earth thousands of years ago, helped humans build impressive structures and possibly either brought humans to this planet and/or created us. The goofy guy in the meme above this is Giorgio Tsoukalos, one of the stars in the TV series. He graduated from Ithaca College, a small private college in Ithaca, New York, in 1998 with a Bachelors Degree in sports information communication (no, he is not an archeologist or any other type of scientist). After graduating, he was a bodybuilding promoter before meeting up with Erich Von Daniken and becoming director of the Archaeology, Astronautics and SETI Research Association, now called the Ancient Alien Society, but now Giorgio claims that he founded the organization. The show is presented as a scientific, documentary styled show but, in reality, it is pseudoscience/pseudohistory for the basis of entertainment. Very little scientific data is presented in the show and most of the claims aren’t even held by any historians or archeologists, as you will see if you watch Dr. Michael S. Heiser’s 3 hour video called, Ancient Aliens Debunked, where he goes through 16 of Ancient Aliens claims. Two of the claims I will go through here.
First is Puma Punku, monumental stones found in Tiahuanaco, Bolivia in South America. Dr. Heiser points out first that Ancient Aliens initial claim about the stones is completely false which shatters any other claim they make in the episode. Ancient Aliens claims that the stones at the location are made out of granite and diorite which, if that were true, would make their claims somewhat more believable, however, this is not the case. The stones at Puma Punku are made from Red Sandstone and Andesite which completely negates anything else Ancient Aliens claims in the episode or really the rest of the show seeing how they state that Puma Punku is the only site built completely by aliens. There is even recent evidence, from 2017, that they used and ancient geopolymer to craft the structures. If the stones were made from granite or diorite, then it would be true that they would need diamond tipped tools to even work the stones the way that they are, simple tools that they would have had back then would make a dent but given what we know, this is not the case. This ruins how heavy they believed the stones to be with the claims that the only way to move them was with levitation devices...the mind can be a funny thing. If you watch Heiser’s video, he shows that the stones have grooves and specially designed holes for rope to maneuver the stones so sorry guys, no science-fiction levitation devices were used here. They even say that there are no trees growing at the site so they can throw out the “wood-rolling” method out, but, if they would just walk down the hill a little bit, they would discover plenty of trees in the area. Another point that shows how disingenuous these people are. Another claim they make, and probably one of the dumbest claims they make is that since it is claimed that Puma Punku was built by the Amara Indians and they didn’t possess an alphabet then there is no way for them to form plans to build the structure. I’m wondering how many times these people were dropped on their heads as children? Despite the fact the they did use iconography known as Yaya Mama it is completely possible for them to draw something similar to blueprints. This is just another example of how so many people seem to believe that just because these older civilizations didn’t have the “advanced” technology we have it must stand to reason that they were all a bunch of knuckle draggers and incapable of creating anything of significance, how insulting! People these days have become so incredibly lazy due to how far we have advanced with our heavy machinery and electric power tools that they can’t even conceptualize being able to create anything amazing without it and if we were to lose it, we would just become mindless Neanderthals.
The next claim they make, which I take personal offense to because of my religious beliefs, is the claim about UFOs in ancient Christian artwork. In the picture above you can see the most common picture used to support this theory, however, if you take the time to actually look into Eastern Orthodox Icons you will discover that this is not what they think they are and is more proof that these people just make baseless claims without even doing any research into the subject. In all crucifixion icons, the sun and the moon appear sometimes with just a face or even whole angels. This was used to signify that this event was important at a cosmic level. Another reason for this is how Byzantine Iconography added elements of spirituality to their icons to signify that our world is more than material, there is also the spiritual realm to keep in mind.
As you can see in this one, it utilizes facial features within the sun and the moon. Even at a secular level, this can be attributed to a style of art that was used, as I said, to express the spiritual beliefs about the world. If you know anything about the Orthodox religion, we utilize the writings of significant early Christians known as Saints and/or Early Church Fathers and in none of their writings (which there are many) there is no suggestion of aliens or UFOs. I personally feel that they use claims like this as a way to attack Christianity because if you pay attention to what they say in their episodes and the beliefs surrounding the Ancient Astronaut Theory, it is surrounded by beliefs that the aliens are really our gods and they try to make a mockery of Christianity. These people’s thoughts are clouded by demons, which I will explain this in the next section. At the very least, people should be able to see that the people of Ancient Aliens are completely disingenuous and are not seeking the truth, they are seeking attention and they want to sell their shows and their books.

The Demonic Truth About Aliens
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places”
Ephesians 6:12
Finally, we get to the explanation! I do not doubt for a minute that people have seen and experienced, what they believe to be as aliens but there is a far more sinister truth to this. What they are experiencing is in fact the Demonic. What makes me laugh about this is that people who believe in aliens will call religious people close minded for not believing in aliens and then have the audacity to shake their head at the idea of demons, further proof that the demonic is clouding their judgement, but I digress. As I said in the beginning of this article, all through human history people have believed in the Demonic, whether they referred to them as evil spirits or demons is not the point, people have known that there is a spiritual realm to our world and there is true evil that can be experienced. However, Post-Enlightenment thinking has lead people to believe that this kind of thinking is “irrational” and that these were just allegorical and it was meant to represent some sort of human behavior. This has been delusional thinking at best, people who have had too much pride of believing that there is nothing superior the human mind, expect for now there are advanced lifeforms in outerspace which essentially stems from the Evolutionary Theory and it becomes believable to them because they think, eventually, we can reach this state of being. This is an inversion of the Christian belief of theosis, the process where the more we are engaging with God, we begin to become more like God through deification. So there you can see this thought of advanced lifeforms and the theory that we will eventually reach that stage is purely demonic as they think we can do this without God, this is the inversion and what the true nature of the demonic really is.
In Greek, there is a word logismoi or intrusive thoughts where these thoughts are implanted into your mind that are intended to take your focus away from God and cause you to sin. This is a way that demons can corrupt us and this can be seen in five stages; assault (the initial thought), interaction (considering the thought) , consent (acting on the thought), captivity (always acting out the thought when it arises), and passion (becoming completely obsessed with the thought). This is where discernment is crucial as every intrusive thought is meant to invert our way of thinking to the point where it separates us from God, even changing the way we think about who God really is or even to the point of making you deny the existence of God entirely. One of the biggest ways that people, specifically Christians and even other religious people, seem to get caught up in this is that they seem to have this idea that the demonic will always be easily identifiable as evil but this is one of their greatest tricks is when they fool the person into believing that the spirit is actually from God and begins twisting what they know about God. This is known as prelest, or, spiritual deception. As I mentioned earlier, the charismatic movement is probably one of the best examples of this as the movement promotes speaking in tongues and inviting the spirit into you. From a secularist view, this just seems like odd behavior but when you take a further look into the spirituality of this form of “Christianity”, it’s hard not to tell that something is wrong.
As it is stated in scripture, whenever you encounter a spirit, you need to have the discernment to test the spirit to know if this spirit is truly from God but what we see with the charismatic movement, they seem to take ANY spiritual interaction as being from God either forgetting or not believe that demons can possess people. I can't remember who said this but there is a great quote on this:
“It is better to cautiously turn away an angel than to enthusiastically invite in a demon."
I have even ran into people who have this idea that if they are “Christians", demons have no power over them but as I was stating before about the logismoi, demons assault our thoughts so it is important for people to understand where their thoughts are coming from as they either come from ourselves, God, or demons. A big proof for the charismatics is the “speaking of tongues” as you would read in Acts 2 but the biggest pushback to this is when you hear the “tongues" that they are speaking, it is gibberish. When we look to scripture, speaking in tongues was a Gift from the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost and this allowed the Apostles to preach the Gospel to the Jews in Jerusalem and they were speaking their language, not some garbled gibberish. They explain this experience as being “baptized in the spirit" and feeling this “energy" wash over them but again, what assures them that this “spirit" is of God? The demonic is not always this horrifying thing that immediately fills you with fear, demons are liars therefore we need to know truth and definitely need to pray for the ability to discern where these spirits are coming from.
“the struggler of prayer should quite rarely look into the sky out of fear of the evil spirits who cause many and various deceptions in the air.”
St. Symeon the New Theologian (Philokalia)
Another power of the demonic is the ability to manifest illusions. This can be seen from writings of church Fathers, two of them I will mention here. St. Martin of Tours who dealt with a monk who was deceived by demons and St. Anthony the Great who, through faith in God, was able to fend off the assault of the demonic.
St. Martin of Tours
A young man named Anatolius became a monk near St. Martin’s monastery and because of false humility, he became the victim of demonic deception. He believed that he conversed with “angels” and to persuade the other monks, the “angels” agreed to give him a shining robe from heaven as a sign of the “Power of God” that dwelt within him. One night his cell became ablaze with light and he emerged with the “heavenly” garment. The other monks inspected his robe and found it to be incredibly soft, with a surpassing luster, and of a brilliant scarlet but it couldn’t be determined what the material was made from. His spiritual father took Anatolius to St. Martin to discern if this was a trick of the devil and sure enough it was, as the devil wasn’t able to hide in the eye’s of St. Martin.
St. Anthony the Great
One day Saint Anthony, then aged 35, decided to spend the night alone in an abandoned tomb. A great multitude of demons came and started beating him, wounding him all over. He lay on the ground as if dead. The claws of the demons prevented him from getting up. According to the hermit the suffering caused by this demonic torture was comparable to no other. The next day, by the Providence of God, a friend came to visit him and carried him on his shoulders to the nearest village for treatment. Anthony came to himself and begged his friend to bring him back to the tomb. Upon arriving there, Saint Anthony exclaimed: “Here is Anthony. I do not flee your beatings nor pain, nor torture; nothing can separate me from the love of God.”
St. Athanasius wrote: “The demons made such a racket that the whole place was shaken, knocking over the four walls of the tomb; they came in droves, taking the form of all kinds of monstrous beasts and hideous reptiles. And the whole place was filled with lions, bears, leopards, bulls, wolves, asps, scorpions. The lions roared, ready to attack; bulls seemed to threaten him with their horns; snakes advanced, crawling on the ground, seeking a place of attack, and wolves prowled around him. They all were making a terrible noise. Groaning in pain, St. Anthony faced the demons, laughing: ‘If you had any power, only one of you would be enough to kill me; but the Lord has taken away your strength, so you want to frighten me by your number. The proof of your powerlessness is that you are reduced to taking the form of senseless animals. If you have any power against me, come on, attack me! But if you cannot do anything, why torment yourselves unnecessarily? My faith in God is my defense against you.’
“But all of a sudden a bright light illuminated the tomb; at that moment, the demons vanished. The pains ceased. When he realized that God was coming to his aid, he asked: ‘Where were you, Lord? Why did you not stop this suffering earlier?’ God answered him, ‘Anthony, I was present at your side. But I waited, observing your fight. And since you have resisted so bravely, I will now always be at your side, and I will make your name famous throughout the world.’ Having heard the words of the Lord, the monk stood up and prayed. He then received such strength that he felt in his body an even greater vigor than before.”
With the first story, we can see that demons are fully capable of manifesting physical things to deceive people, think of the UFO sightings, and in the second story, we can see that having true faith in God is what we need to protect ourselves from the assault of demons and that sometimes God will allow us to suffer under the demonic in order to make us stronger.
Conclusion
Like I said earlier, I do not for one minute doubt that there aren’t ACTUAL sighting of what people believe to be UFOs or aliens but given what I have written about here, the best explanation is the demonic. I know this won’t be enough to convince everyone who reads this but anyone who really takes the time to think about what has been presented here just might see the truth. When you think about over 12,000 sightings in about 20 years you have to wonder, if it really was aliens from “far-away galaxies”, why would they need to stop here so many times? If you read the section about Ancient Aliens and still believe that they are telling the truth and not just trying to sell an entertaining show, there is no helping you. There is a lot more that can be said about the demonic and what they are capable of but this article is already long enough but I might write more about it in the future. I think this lays out enough to show what they are actually capable of and how to discern what is truly demonic activity and how to resist it.
